Republic TV is the hottest English news channel to hit India. It was launched in May 2017, and is one of the few news channels in the country which satisfies the needs of both the traditional news consumer and the new breed of online news junkie. The channel is owned and operated by Republic Media Network, a digital media and tech company founded by former Times Now editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami. This channel has a lot to offer in terms of shows and features. In fact, it is so good that it has managed to top the charts for several weeks in a row.
One of the most notable features of Republic TV is its ability to tailor its content to the tastes of its viewers. For instance, they have launched a special Republic TV app which allows users to browse through their favourite shows and features on the go. These special features include trending videos, breaking news and sports. Users can also interact with Arnab Goswami, the channel’s chief executive, through the app, round the clock. Aside from the typical news updates, the app is also a hub for trending videos, trending events and even agenda-setting exclusives.
Another impressive feature of the channel is its ability to deliver the news in an entertaining manner. They have created a range of shows for a wide variety of interests. Their lineup includes a wide range of news, entertainment, lifestyle and celebrity shows. They have also curated content from across the world. Interestingly, their news team is made up of the youngest journalists in the country.
Other features of the channel include a daily news fix, trending video and even a live debate show called the Republic TV Debate. In fact, they have created a number of buzz-worthy events which have been a major source of excitement for the country’s English-speaking audiences. The app has managed to break all the conventional news-room norms by providing a plethora of news and breaking news to its users.
The Republic Media Network recently launched a second news channel, namely R. Bharat. As per the data provided by the Broadcast Audience Research Council, it has managed to garner more than 51.9 percent of the national English news viewership, a feat that has been matched by none other. Moreover, the company is on track to achieving its goal of becoming the most widely watched news channel in the country.
Despite its numerous accomplishments, Republic TV has fallen prey to a scam involving the manipulation of viewers’ ratings. Moreover, Arnab Goswami, its chief executive, has been accused of misappropriating millions of rupees, which are worth around US$2 million. According to a court in Mumbai, the former chief executive is required to give three days’ notice before being arrested. However, there is hope for the channel. Earlier this year, they raised a significant amount of money for the channel.
With the launch of their English news channel, Republic Media Network has proved that they have the right team, the right content and the right technology to succeed.
